Overview and Mission

As commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, MEXT consortium for promotion of IB education in Japan was established in May 2018 with the aim of disseminating the International Baccalaureate (IB) programs in Japan.

MEXT consortium for promotion of IB education in Japan will conduct the following five projects:

  • Operation of MEXT consortium for promotion of IB education in Japan
    We will operate a conference body to meet the needs and resolve the issues of schools interested in IB, including IB World Schools and candidate schools, and local governments.
    Moreover, the entities to accept IB graduates (universities and companies)
  • Research studies on the effectiveness of IB education
    We will conduct a survey on the dissemination status of IB education and a research study on IB education cases in Japan and the comparison of effectiveness between Japanese education and IB education.
  • Support to schools considering the introduction of the IB programs
    We will provide information required for the IB accreditation to schools and boards of education that are interested in the introduction of the IB programs and keep updating and maintaining the IB accreditation procedure manuals.
  • Development and operation of the ICT platform
    We will develop the ICT platform to promote information sharing among parties related to the IB in Japan, including the public interested in the IB (to be opened in autumn, 2018).
  • Operations to hold symposiums, etc.
    We will hold an IB symposium once a year as a place to transmit information concerning IB education and a conference for the dissemination of IB education once a year.

The above-mentioned projects will be implemented based on the consultations with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the International Baccalaureate.
